Reality Alert: A child with diabetes enrolled in a YMCA day camp program. While testing her blood sugar levels before lunch one day, the child’s friends were curious about her testing supplies.
A mentor in a Big Brothers Big Sisters program was charged with sexually assaulting his young mentee. The child said his mentor showed him pornographic websites and abused him both in a dorm room and in a car.
Reality Alert: Several Jewish Community Centers across the country recently reported receiving bomb threats. While none of these threats resulted in an actual explosion, a bomb threat can be very traumatizing for patrons and employees alike.
Organizations are facing new issues regarding marijuana, as more and more states legalize medical and, in some cases, recreational use. Since marijuana in any form is still illegal under federal law, this can put organizations in a difficult position.
Thousands of young people participate in sports activities every year, gaining valuable skills in teamwork and competition. Unfortunately, abuse scandals in youth sports have become more prevalent in the last few years.
Reality Alert: A camp was forced to close for weeks after multiple campers and counselors got sick with a virus that swept through the camp. The contagious stomach bug spread easily in the close quarters of the camp cabins and children had to be sent home to recover.
