West Bend partners with the city of Green Bay and the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees

West Bend, in partnership with the City of Green Bay and the Arbor Day Foundation, hosted members of the Green Bay community, including West Bend agents, for a tree-planting event to restore the natural beauty of Murphy Park. More than 30 volunteers gathered to plant 35 native trees as part of a broader effort to restore natural habitats in Green Bay following significant ecological damage caused by the emerald ash borer and recent severe weather events.

The planted trees, including hackberry, swamp white oak, tamarack, and disease-resistant elm, are expected to enhance the park’s natural beauty while recreating a wet meadow habitat that’s native to the region. Murphy Park, a local favorite for activities such as pickleball, hiking, and wildlife observation, will benefit from increased biodiversity and environmental sustainability.

The event featured a proclamation by Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, who highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship in the city’s ongoing recovery from environmental damage. The tree planting served as an opportunity for community members to come together to help rebuild and protect the region’s natural ecosystems.

“Thanks to the Arbor Day Foundation and West Bend for making this planting possible,” said Mayor Eric Genrich. “A robust tree canopy and thriving natural areas are essential elements of any vibrant community, and we’re grateful to have this opportunity to further enhance one of our terrific city parks!”

“We’re proud to work with the Arbor Day Foundation and the City of Green Bay to help restore this beloved park and contribute to a greener, more sustainable community,” said Rob Jacques, president and CEO of West Bend Insurance Company. “I’ve raised my family in Green Bay and it’s especially meaningful to me to be part of this initiative that strengthens the city’s natural beauty.”

The effort underscores our commitment to community engagement and environmental responsibility. We’re proud to leave a lasting positive impact on the local environment and the people who enjoy the park.
